Slackware x86 contains a number of root disks images, including rescue, network and friends. Slackware ARM has three image files that you will find in this directory. initrd-armv7.img ---------------- An initial RAM disk of the Slackware installer containing the Kernel modules for supported ARMv7 systems, including the Trimslice, ARM Versatile Express (under QEMU) and the Banana Pi. This is a gzipped image, not a U-boot formatted image. Some versions of U-boot (from 2013 onwards) can support booting a gzipped version. For example, the Banana Pi running a mainline version of U-Boot from 2014 uses this installer image. You can check whether the version of U-Boot on your device supports loading these formats by entering the U-Boot console (command prompt) and testing whether it supports the 'bootz' command. uinitrd-armv7.img ----------------- This is the same image as above, except that it's in a U-Boot format. The bootloader on the Trimslice requires this format and other boards may do as well. uinitrd-armv5.img -------------------- A 'U-Boot' format initial RAM disk of the Slackware Installer containing the Kernel modules for use with ARMv5 systems, including the Marvell Kirkwood series. For instructions about how to use these installer images, please see the appropriate documentation in the root directory of the Slackware ARM tree. If you wish to unpack one of the U-Boot images, please refer to ../kernels/README.TXT for instructions. The Slackware ARM Installer and can also be used as a rescue environment.
